Connecticut Teams Participate in Yale Fall Academic Tournament

Connecticut Quiz Bowl teams had a strong showing at Yale University's Fall Academic Tournament (FAcT) on September 16th, 2017, which was a regular-minus difficulty tournament. Schools from Connecticut in attendance included Wilton High School, Greens Farms Academy, Darien High School, E.O. Smith High School, Suffield High School, and Middlesex Middle School. 

 

Darien A defeated Andover in an advantaged final to win the tournament, while Wilton placed 3rd and Greens Farms 4th overall. All four of those teams qualified for NAQT's High School National Championship Tournament. Darien B also made the top bracket, placing 5th overall. Middlesex A, E.O. Smith, and Middlesex B both made the second bracket, while Darien C and Suffield A were at the top of the third bracket.

 

Alexander Koutsoukos (Wilton) was the top scorer at the tournament, with a remarkable 123 points per game. 8th grader Karsten Rynearson (Greens Farms A) placed 2nd, with an impressive 114.23 points per game. Other top scorers included Julia Tong (4th, Darien A) and John Phipps (7th, Darien A).

 

Congratulations to all teams who participated! The tournament marked a strong start for Connecticut's quiz bowl teams as they begin the 2017-18 quiz bowl season.
